These days nutrition and other health advice is readily available, but usually conveyed to sell the magazine or show, not usually balancing interest with the science that supports good decisions.  So here I am.  This is my venue, where I marry the many facets of my life as they converge in conversation.

This blog will record some of the conversations I have had with friends, family, students and co-workers and my own thoughts and conversations alone in the car with the radio or talking back to the TV.  We chat about every day decisions about what to buy at the store, choosing the best thing for our kids and considering our own options.  The themes are often repeated because really we’re all thinking about many of the same issues.  I am also writing to get the word out.  A hundred years ago E. V. McCullum wrote for Red Book magazine to share the news from his own experiments and others that filled scientific writing, but didn’t often get out to non-scientists.  (I think I was supposed to be learning that he was the first to identify Vitamin D, but I remember his writing for Red Book instead.) I’m very excited to write about food and health from the perspective of a mom, a woman, a nutritionist and an epidemiologist.

Welcome to my blog.
